It’s come down to the final games of the regular season for area high school baseball and softball teams with several games on the schedule today and tomorrow. This afternoon’s baseball schedule features Hoopeston Area traveling to Milford while Cissna Park will play a doubleheader tomorrow morning against Danville Schlarman at Danville Stadium.

In Major League Baseball action last night, the Twins snuck by the White Sox 7-6 to take both games of their abbreviated two game series. Derek Holland took the loss for the southsiders after giving up 7 runs, with just 3 of them being earned runs, on 6 hits while walking 4 in his 5 innings on the mound. Melky Cabrera led the offense with a three run home run in the 5th inning and Matt Davidson pitched in with a solo shot of his own. The Sox will now welcome the Padres to town for a three game weekend series beginning tonight at 7:10. White Sox starter Miguel Gonzalez will face off against Padres starter Jhoulys Chacin in tonight’s game.
Meanwhile, the Cubs and Cardinals had the day off yesterday before beginning a big weekend series tonight in St Louis. The Cubs will send newly recalled triple A starter Eddie Butler to the mound for his first start of the year against Cardinals starter Mike Leake. First pitch is set for 7:15 at Busch Stadium tonight.
In NBA playoff action, the San Antonio Spurs blew out the Houston Rockets 114-75 in Houston last night to take that series four games to two. The Spurs will now move on to face the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals beginning Sunday afternoon in Oakland. Tonight’s schedule features the Boston Celtics looking to close out the Washington Wizards in Washington. The Celtics lead that series three games to two with the Cleveland Cavaliers awaiting the winner of this series.
The NHL’s conference finals also get started this weekend with game 1 of the Western Conference Finals between the Anaheim Ducks and the Nashville Predators taking place tonight. Puck drop is set for 8 pm in Anaheim.
Lastly, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series will be at the Kansas Speedway in Kansas City for a Saturday night race. Kyle Busch is the defending champion at the 1.5 mile tri-oval.
