Hoopeston Area 13, Milford 1. Ryan Drayer's 4-for-5, two-RBI outing paced the Cornjerkers (8-2) as they rolled to a Vermilion Valley Conference triumph over the host Bearcats (4-5). Other key players for Hoopeston included Logan Walder, who drove in two runs, and Brady Gaddis, who fanned nine batters while allowing four hits in seven innings. Tyler Buhrmester collected an RBI for Milford.
Paxton-Buckley-Loda 10, Cissna Park 5. Ben McClure finished 2 for 4 with a double and four RBI as the visiting Panthers (8-4) climbed past the Timberwolves (7-6) in a Sangamon Valley Conference tilt. McClure's two-base knock drove in a trio of runs. Keyn Humes swiped five bases as well for PBL, while Dalton Busboom fanned six in six innings of mound work. Conner Lober notched three hits and Rudy King added two for Cissna Park.
South Newton 15, Iroquois West 5 (5) - SOUTH NEWTON EXPLODED WITH 9 RUNS IN THE BOTTOM OF THE FIFTH TO WALK AWAY WITH A 15-5 WIN AGAINST IROQUOIS WEST. CHICAGO -- Adam Wainwright (1-2) outpitched Tyler Chatwood in frigid conditions at Wrigley Field, where the gametime temperature was 35 degrees and a 10 mph wind made it feel like 29. Wainwright allowed an unearned run and four hits as St. Louis won 5-3 FOR its fifth straight WIN, and he improved to 11-2 in 24 games at Wrigley. Matt Carpenter had two hits and three RBI. Chatwood (0-3) issued seven walks in 4 2/3 innings, one off his career high, and yielded two runs and one hit.

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Jed Lowrie marked his 34th birthday with a go-ahead home run off Miguel Gonzalez (0-3) in a five-run first inning and Trevor Cahill (1-0) pitched seven scoreless innings in his season debut. Oakland celebrated the 50th anniversary of the A's first game at the Coliseum by making admission and parking free. The crowd of 46,028 was a big spike from the 7,479 announced attendance Monday.
