ILLINOIS BASEBALL

Watseka 6, Dwight 0 - Ben Lyznicki went the distance, allowing just five hits along with five strikeouts. He also had a hit with an RBI. Jaden Downs finished 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Tim Wright went 1-for-3 with two RBIs while Caden Giroux was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

Hoopeston Area 13, Milford 1. Ryan Drayer's 4-for-5, two-RBI outing paced the Cornjerkers (8-2) as they rolled to a Vermilion Valley Conference triumph over the host Bearcats (4-5). Other key players for Hoopeston included Logan Walder, who drove in two runs, and Brady Gaddis, who fanned nine batters while allowing four hits in seven innings. Tyler Buhrmester collected an RBI for Milford.

Paxton-Buckley-Loda 10, Cissna Park 5. Ben McClure finished 2 for 4 with a double and four RBI as the visiting Panthers (8-4) climbed past the Timberwolves (7-6) in a Sangamon Valley Conference tilt. McClure's two-base knock drove in a trio of runs. Keyn Humes swiped five bases as well for PBL, while Dalton Busboom fanned six in six innings of mound work. Conner Lober notched three hits and Rudy King added two for Cissna Park.

South Newton 15, Iroquois West 5 (5) - SOUTH NEWTON EXPLODED WITH 9 RUNS IN THE BOTTOM OF THE FIFTH TO WALK AWAY WITH A 15-5 WIN AGAINST IROQUOIS WEST. Sean Rogers took the loss in four innings, giving up 10 hits and five earned runs. Alexis Ramirez finished with a hit and two RBIs. NATE VISSERING WENT 4 FOR 4 WITH 4 RBI'S AND 3 RUNS SCORED . . . LEVI SAMPLE WAS 2-3 WITH A DOUBLE AND AN RBI. JAY HAMMELL WAS 1 FOR 3 WITH 2 RBI'S AND DESMOND COSTILLA WAS 1 FOR 3 WITH 3 RBI'S AND A RUN SCORED.

Central 7, Momence 6 - Tyler Pelehowski earned the win in 1.2 innings of relief with three strikeouts.  Canyon Burrow was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Austin Boudreau, Davy Zell and Brayden Bailey each collected a hit and an RBI. Cole Holloway suffered the loss in 6.1 innings with four strikeouts for Momence. Noah Bramer collected two hits and two RBIs.

Dwight 15, Watseka 0 (5) - Abby Edwards wasted no time assuring her dominance and tossed a no-hitter with seven strikeouts in the Trojans' five inning win. Kaitlyn Mashing finished 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Macey Rodosky went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI while Lynndee Hale was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Milford 6, Hoopeston 0 - Kaylee Warren notched the complete game shutout in the circle with three strikeouts. Jordan Fritch finished 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs while Brittney Bailey was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Clifton Central   7       0       Momence - CLIFTON — Central Starter McKenna Goldtrap confounded Momence for seven strong innings en route to a five-hit shutout and a 7-0 Sangamon Valley Conference win at home on Tuesday.

Adam Dienhart struck out seven in a complete game effort that guided Central Catholic to a 7-3 Hoosier Conference victory against West Lafayette.

Ethan Luzadder's run-scoring double highlighted a five-run second inning that propelled Twin Lakes to an 11-1 Hoosier Conference victory against Rensselaer.

Malyah Embery's three-hit day included a two-run homer in South Newton's 14-4 victory against Iroquois West.

McCutcheon to a 4-0 victory against Benton Central.

Attica's 9-3 loss at Bismarck-Henning (Ill.).

Seeger defeated Fountain Central 11-4.

North White to a 9-7 victory against Tri-County.

CHICAGO -- Adam Wainwright (1-2) outpitched Tyler Chatwood in frigid conditions at Wrigley Field, where the gametime temperature was 35 degrees and a 10 mph wind made it feel like 29. Wainwright allowed an unearned run and four hits as St. Louis won 5-3 FOR its fifth straight WIN, and he improved to 11-2 in 24 games at Wrigley. Matt Carpenter had two hits and three RBI. Chatwood (0-3) issued seven walks in 4 2/3 innings, one off his career high, and yielded two runs and one hit.

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Jed Lowrie marked his 34th birthday with a go-ahead home run off Miguel Gonzalez (0-3) in a five-run first inning and Trevor Cahill (1-0) pitched seven scoreless innings in his season debut. Oakland celebrated the 50th anniversary of the A's first game at the Coliseum by making admission and parking free. The crowd of 46,028 was a big spike from the 7,479 announced attendance Monday.
