WHAT:  Double Fatal Traffic Crash 

WHERE:    Illinois Route 1 at Vermilion County 3870 E Road (Between Rossville and Hoopeston)  

WHEN:  February 7, 2018 at 6:21 pm 

DRIVERS:  Unit 1: Male, 52, IL (Deceased, Name withheld pending family notification.) 

   Unit 2: Female, 59, IL (Deceased, Name withheld pending family notification.) 

VEHICLES:   Unit 1:  Pick-up truck 

    Unit 2:  Minivan 

PRELIMINARY:     Illinois State Police are investigating a double fatal crash on Illinois Route 1 at Vermilion County Road 3870 North.  Preliminary crash investigation revealed the driver of Unit 1 was northbound and Unit 2 was southbound.  The driver of Unit 1 crossed the center line for an unknown reason.  Unit 1 struck Unit 2 head-on in the southbound lanes.  The driver of Unit 1 was pronounced deceased on scene.  The driver of Unit 2 was air-lifted to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, where she later succumbed to her injuries.  The crash is still under investigation.

TRANSPORTS: Driver of Unit 1 was pronounced deceased on scene.  Driver of Unit 2 was air-lifted from the scene to an area hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
