Darren E. Duncan, Vermilion County Treasurer & Ex-Officio Tax Collectorwould like to share that the 2017 Real Estate Tax Bills will be mailed on May 4th, 2018.

As the Vermilion County Treasurer I would like to share that the 2017 Real Estate Tax Bills will be mailed on May 4th, 2018. Taxpayers will have until June 15th, 2018 which is about 45 days to make their first installment of taxes. The second installment will be due September 4th, 2018.

State statute dictates that bills should be mailed in early May.  For several years the County Treasurer’s Office, as much as we’d have preferred to follow state guidelines, have been unable to do so. I am pleased to announce that we will meet that goal this year. With the on-time billing, property owners will have a wider window to pay their real estate taxes with nearly 3 months between the installment due dates.  This will also allow the Treasurer’s Office to make timely distributions to the taxing bodies of Vermilion County, including but not limited to, many cash strapped school districts.  It is planned that our office will be able to maintain this schedule consistently in coming years so that tax payers as well as taxing districts know what to plan towards.

Some of the convenient ways to pay your tax bill include paying online under the Treasurer’s Tab on the County Website, vercounty.org; paying in person at the Vermilion County Administration Building; mailing your payment to the PO Box listed on your tax bill payment coupon, or at most Vermilion County bank.  Vermilion County banks that accept real estate tax payments include:

   - First Midwest Bank                 - Old National Bank                     - Iroquois Federal

   - First Financial Bank                 - Philo Allerton Bank                   - Gifford State Bank

   - Illinois National Bank              - Longview Bank & Trust            - CIMB Bank

   - Main Source Bank                   - First Farmers Bank                    - Longview Bank of Ogden

   - Prospect Bank                          - Rantoul (Rossville) Bank          - First National of Catlin

Please remember to check your tax bill to verify the proper exemptions have been applied. The owner occupied and senior citizens exemptions are the most common exemptions received by taxpayers.
