WHAT:   Traffic Crash Fatality 
WHERE:   IL Route 9 at Cheneyville Road (Vermillion County) 
WHEN:   August 26, 2019 at 08:26 pm 
VEHICLE:  Unit 1: 2006 Ford Freestar Van 
DRIVER:  Unit 1 – Miguel I Vera, 36, San Benito, Texas 
Passengers:  Unit 1 - Male, 38, Brownsville, Texas 
   Unit 1 – Male, 37 
    
Preliminary: According to the preliminary investigation, Unit 1 was traveling westbound on Illinois Route 9 in Vermillion County just east of Cheneyville Road in Vermillion County.  Unit one ran off the roadway, struck a culvert, and overturned into a corn field.  The 37 year old male passenger was pronounced deceased on the scene.  The Vermillion County Coroner will release the name of the deceased once the next of kin notification has been completed.   
 
TRANSPORTS: The driver and 38 year old passenger were transported to a local area hospital.  
 
SEATBELTS:   Pending Investigation 
CHARGES:  The driver was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, Improper Lane Usage, and No Valid Driver’s License.  
 
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
