Details: Officers were called to the above in reference to a report of glass breaking. Once on scene it was discovered that multiple windows has been broken. Investigation continues

Unit @: 2008 Lincoln Sedan driven by Elsa Grandos (44) (F) from Hoopeston
Details: Unit 2 was turning onto S. 5th St. when Unit 1 failed to yield right of way and struck Unit 2 in the rear driver’s side door. No injuries were reported, no
tickets were issued and both vehicles were insured.
Restraint of Dogs by Owner (city citation) H19-4971

Cited: John Seiters (58) (M) of Hoopeston
Details: HPD officers were called to the area for the report of a civil issue. Upon
investigation, it was found that the cited male had let his dogs run without
being on a leash. Mr. Seiters was given a city citation and a court date.
Brush Fire

Details: HFD was called out to the above location for a brush fire. Power Pole
caught fire and burned off, Ameren has been notified.
Unlawful Use of a Firearm, Possession of Cannabis, Speeding, Operating Uninsured
Vehicle H19-4988

Arrested: Andrew Barber (20) (M) of Hoopeston
Kodi Gonzalez (22) (M) of Hoopeston
Details: HPD officers stopped the vehicle that Mr. Gonzalez was driving for a
traffic violation. Upon investigation, cannabis and a firearm was located
inside the vehicle. Mr. Gonzalez was arrested for unlawful use of a firearm,
possession of cannabis and given 2 traffic citations for speeding and operating an uninsured vehicle. Mr. Barber was arrested for unlawful use of
a firearm. Both subjects were transported to the PSB in Danville to await
arraignment.
FATAL CRASH THAYER-
NEWTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE (9-16-19 8:19 AM)
On September 14th, 2019 at approximately 6:49 p.m. Newton County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to SR 55, north of 1200N in Thayer, IN for a single motorcycle crash.
Through the course of the investigation it was found that 57 year old Dennis Michael Smolek of Crown Point, Indiana was traveling north bound ST. RD. 55 on his 2019 Harley Davidson motorcycle and ran off the road for unknown reasons when exiting the first curve.
Smolek was transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point, Indiana where he succumbed to his injuries.
Newton County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the female driver of a blue sedan that may have witnessed the crash or have more information. This driver and vehicle were NOT believed to have been involved in the crash. This driver should contact Deputy Fellmy at 219-474-5661.
