Vermilion County Covid 19 update 8/18/21

We are reporting 41 new cases (one resident in their 80s, one in their 70s, four in their 60s, twelve in their 50s, seven in their 40s, six in their 30s, four in their 20s, four teens, and two grade-school-aged children), and 66 released, which brings us to a total of 10,919 positive cases.

We are saddened to report one additional COVID-related death - a man in his 60s. Our sympathies go out to his family and friends. We have lost a total of 159 Vermilion County residents to COVID-related deaths since this pandemic began.

There are currently 30 Vermilion County residents with COVID hospitalized. There are currently 293 active COVID cases in the county.

Of the 41 cases being reported today, six of them told us they have been fully vaccinated. As part of the interview process, our contact tracers ask each person who tested positive whether they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Vaccinations save lives.

Due to Vermilion County's HIGH transmission status, it is recommended that everyone, despite vaccination, should wear a mask when indoors.

We are encouraging our community to get vaccinated, to get tested, to stay home when they are sick, and to wear face masks.

The FDA and the CDC have approved boosters for COVID-19. The boosters for COVID-19 are mainly for certain immunocompromised individuals and for those who received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. We will not administer any booster shots until after we receive guidance from the CDC and the IDPH. After we receive more specific information, we will inform the public on the next steps.
