Dennis John Gerth, 75, of Wellington, IL, passed away at 6:25 P.M. Sunday September 16, 2018 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. He was born December 10, 1942, in Chicago, IL, the son of William and Caroline Gerth. He married Gertie Dzik on April 6, 1968. She survives in Wellington.
He is also survived by two daughters, Sue (Eric) Sandquist of TX and Cynthia Gerth of IL; three sons, Matthew Gerth of AR, John Gerth of IL, and Robert (Melissa) Gerth of MO; one sister, Donna Knutson; three brothers, Donald (Jean) Gerth, Danny (Carol) Gerth and Dwayne (Lori) Gerth; thirteen grandchildren, Eric, Joshua, Matthew, Hanah, Joseph, Janel, and Josiah Sandquist, Matthew and Cody Gerth, Noel Godwin, Sarah Casile, and Jacob and Kurtis Emling; 10 great-grandchildren, Ariel, Zach, Yisraela Sandquist, Zayden and Laura Godwin, Elijah and Kammaia Gerth, and Christian, Elijah, and Grace Casile; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, David Gerth.
Dennis worked as a diesel mechanic until his retirement. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a service officer of the VFW and American Legion in New Lenox. Dennis enjoyed carpentry work, loved spending time with his family, and was a devoted and loving husband and father.
Per his wishes, he will be cremated, and a service will be held at a later date.
