Harold Lloyd Smock, 95, of Rossville

Harold Lloyd Smock, 95, of Rossville, IL, passed away at 6:48 P.M. Saturday February 2, 2019 at Faith Place/Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth, IL.  He was born October 21, 1923, in Rossville, IL, the son of Harold Odum and Gladys (Cooper) Smock.  He married Donna Marie Peterson on August 20, 1949, at the Church of Christ Parsonage in Rossville.  She preceded him in death on December 21, 2008.

He is survived by three daughters, Linda (Duane) Turner of Rossville, IL, Karen (Stephen) Philbrook of Holt, MI, and Jo Anne (Gary) Milton of Rossville, IL; one son, David Lloyd Smock of Rossville, IL; two sisters, Ethel Roach of Hoopeston, IL and Mary Stillwell of West Melbourne, FL; four brothers, Jack (Marybelle) Smock of Rossville, IL, John Smock of Pharr, TX, Gordon (Sue) Smock of Alvin, IL, and Larry (Kenna) Smock of Rossville, IL; four grandchildren, Erin (Robert) Danner of Rossville, IL, Courtney (Nathan) Reynolds of Lansing, MI, Megan (Ryan) Anderson of Hoopeston, IL, and Tori Smock of Alvin, IL; 4 step-granddaughters, Stacey, Kym, Amy, and Jami; 5 great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and 16 nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by a special friend, Betty Yeats of Rossville, IL.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; one sister, Beatrice Scott; one brother, Donald Smock; two brothers-in-law, Tom Scott and Robert Compton; and one nephew, Chuck Smock.

Harold was a meat-cutter at the Grab-It Here and later at the A & P (The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co.) until his retirement.  He served as a Paratrooper and Medic in the United States Army during World War II, serving in Japan and the Philippines. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rossville, where he was an elder and did a lot of volunteer work.  He was a past Rossville School Board member and past Ross Township Board member.  Harold enjoyed woodworking and carving, golfing, and fishing.

A visitation will be held 4:00 -7:00 P.M. Thursday February 7, 2019 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday February 8, 2019 at the funeral home with Pastor Gary Milton officiating.  Burial will follow in Mann’s Chapel Cemetery in rural Rossville, IL.
