Roy Lee Cherry, 89, of Hoopeston

Roy Lee Cherry, 89, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 10:55 P.M. Sunday February 10, 2019, at his residence at Autumn Fields in Hoopeston.  He was born July 7, 1929, in Red Boiling Spring, TN, the son of Silas and Ollie Cherry.  He married Martha Ann Clark on December 21, 1947 in Newman, IL.  She survives in Hoopeston.

He is also survived by four daughters, Beverly (Sam) Minton of Wilkesboro, NC, Nancy Marshall of Scottsdale, AR, Rose (Kenny) Holycross of West Lebanon, IN, and Julie (Mark) Newman of Rankin, IL; one sister, Willodeen Dixon of Bowling Green, KY; 13 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters; 4 brothers; one grandson, Dustin Marshall; and one great-grandson, Tyler Minton.

Roy was a farmer for over 65 years until his retirement.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hoopeston and a charter member of the Rankin Lions Club.  He loved music and playing the guitar and enjoyed bowling in his younger days.  Roy especially loved his family and his grandchildren.

A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Thursday February 14, 2019 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the First Baptist Church 323 E. Seminary Ave, Hoopeston, IL, with Pastor Adam Taubert officiating.  Burial will follow in Rankin Union Cemetery in Rankin, IL.
