Opal E. Blakey, 102, of Hoopeston, IL passed away at 12:45 P.M. on Sunday, August 23, 2020 at the Watseka Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Watseka, IL. She was born October 14, 1917, in Pulaski County, KY, the daughter of Henry and Eva (Burton) Burge. She married Ivy “Ivan” Mayfield Blakey on December 17, 1935 in Hoopeston, IL.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, seven brothers and one sister, Salathiel (Bozzie), Harold, Carvie, Hale, Carthiel (Cooter), Lura, Cecil, and Lloyd Burge.
Opal and Ivan ran a gas station in Armstrong, IL for several years. For twenty years, she cleaned house and cooked for the attorney Charles Dyer and his wife. She attended the Nazarene Church in Hoopeston. Opal loved going to the Multi-Agency in Hoopeston for lunch on Tuesday and Fridays. She loved to tell her life stories to her family that would come visit her and bring her chocolates.
A visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 A.M. at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, IL with Pastor Adam Taubert officiating.
