Holley "Dale" Hammer, most commonly known as "Unc" 78, of Potomac

Holley “Dale” Hammer, most commonly known as "Unc" 78, of Potomac, passed away at 7:49 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Carle Foundation Hospital, in Urbana.

Holley was born on March 5, 1943, in Lafayette, Indiana, the son of Holley Houston and Tommie Mae (Kingrey) Hammer.

He is survived by two sons, Holley D. Hammer Jr., of Franklin KY, and Joseph Hammer of Oklahoma. Two daughters, Erikka Dalye Hammer and Amanda Mounts both of West Lafayette IN.  Five grandchildren, Katie Jo Hammer, Victor Hammer, Liam Laplante, Jonathan Rodriguez and Emily Wheeldon.  He is also survived by five sisters, Linda S. (Dave) Ferney of Lafayette IN, Patricia A. (Ron) Howard of Lafayette IN, Rebecca K. Riggins of Odin IN, Jaqueline (Doug) Moorefield of Sheldon IL and Cynthia B. (Robert) White of Richmond IN.  Also, survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly with special mention of nieces Brenda Cannon, Sandy Barnes and great niece Stephanie Kitchens, whom provided him with health and home throughout his years in later life.

Preceded in death by his parents, one son Holley “Hoop” Houston Hammer, two sisters, Wanda Jean Kitchens and Doris June Hall.

Holley worked as a carpenter and then later as a truck driver for most of his life. He settled down in the small town of Potomac where he enjoyed sitting on the front porch visiting with people or taking strolls uptown, he never met a stranger. He was a jokester with a wonderful sense of humor. Holley had quite the inquisitive personality. He enjoyed the little things in life like a simple car ride. He also enjoyed Facebook, solitaire, crossword puzzles and going to church.

Holley was a loving father, brother, uncle, and friend and will be greatly missed by many.

A Celebration of Holley's life will be held at 11:30 a.m. EST. Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Tri-County Baptist Church, 307 S. 3rd Street Ambia, Indiana 47917, with Pastor Daniel Meece officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, at the church.  Cremation rites have been accorded by the Blurton Funeral Home, in Potomac.  Condolences may be shared with the family on his everlasting memorial page at:  www.BlurtonFuneralHomes.com.
