Dorothy Bray 85 of Rossville

 

Dorothy “Dot” Lorene (Kammin) Bray peacefully left this world to be with the Lord and her beloved son, Timmy on February 14, 2022, at Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center.

Dot was born in Crawfordsville, IN on August 27, 1936, to the late Raymond Kammin and Lorene Hankins Weller.  She grew up in Alvin, Illinois attending the Rossville High School.

Dorothy married John on September 18, 1954, in Rossville, Illinois. He survives.  Dorothy spent the majority of her life as a farm wife on the farm outside Pence, IN until she and her husband later moved a country block away to where she was currently residing in rural Rossville, Illinois.  She was a member of the Warren County Home Ec Club, 4-H leader, Room Mom for her kids, and a member of the Jordan Chapel in Pence, Indiana.

Dot enjoyed baking, gardening & canning, camping, crocheting, quilting, watching her Hoosiers play basketball, playing card/dice with friends & family, and raising and loving not only her children but several nieces, nephews, and neighborhood kids.  Her home was the site of many holiday gatherings including the famous Easter Egg hunts that brought joy to so many.  Dorothy also worked at Con-Agra in Rossville, Molly’s in Hoopeston where she shared her love and knowledge of flowers and plants.  She also spent many years running her antique store Dot’s Alley Shop in Rossville where you could stop in any time and find her not only working hard but enjoying coffee with her friends and neighbors.  In her later years, Dot took great pride in her flower gardens and feeding her birds.  She was a friend and confidant to so many always offering a shoulder to cry on and her honest, and often very blunt advice.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  They brought her so much pride and joy!  

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved son, Timothy J. Bray, a sister, Barbara Dalle, and a brother Roscoe Kammin.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband John E. Bray. Her sons John (Sandy) Bray of Hoopeston, Mike (Tina) Bray of Rossville. Daughter Beth Ann (Curt) Knecht of Hoopeston, and daughter-in-law Jane (JD) Bray Comrie or Texas.  Two sisters, Sherry (Richard) Cole and Sandra (Jim) Hughes both of Danville, and one brother Larry (Sally) Kammin of Covington, Indiana.  She is also survived by her beloved and adored grandchildren.  Johnny (Lindsey) Bray, RaeAnn (Rob) Webster, Chad (Tiffany) Bruens, April Fowler, Sierra (Matt) Davis, Michael (Kristin) Bray, Matthew (Amber) Bray, Kraig Bray, and Daniel Bass.  Several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a some very special and dear friends of whom she loved dearly. 

According to her wishes she did not want any services and cremation rites will be accorded.  A celebration of her life will be held at a later date and she will be laid to rest at Jordan Cemetery, in Pence, Indiana.  The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home, in Hoopeston, to assist them with honoring Dot’s life.  Memorials may be made in Dot’s name to the Hoopeston Multi Agency.  Condolences may be shared with the family on her everlasting memorial page at:  www.BlurtonFuneralHomes.com.
