Mary Julia Petersen, 82, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 2:56 A.M. Thursday February 17, 2022, at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville, IL. She was born June 3, 1939, in Rankin, IL, the daughter of William and Dorothy (Cooley) McCormick. She married Jack Petersen on June 16, 1957, at her parent’s home in Rankin. Together they enjoyed 53 years of marriage before his passing in 2010.
She is survived by one daughter, Julia Ann (Sanford) Dameron of Flower Mound, TX; three sons, Jack Randell (Karen) Petersen of Danville, IL, Steven Lee (Denise) Petersen of Lancaster, PA, and William Jacob Petersen of Lexington, OH; eight grandchildren, Luke, Caleb, Jenny, Hannah, Megan, Zack, Kayla, and Jax; and ten great-grandchildren, Hunter, Lyric, Hope, Emmalee, Paxton, Asher, Natalie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Ava. She is also survived by her lifelong friend, Ellen Theesfeld and special neighbors, Don and Betty Barron.
In addition to her husband, Jack, she was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Joshua.
Mary Jo was a homemaker for most of her life. She was a member of the Cheneyville Christian Church in Cheneyville, IL. She loved taking pictures, researching family history, and spending time with her family.
A visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. – 11:30 A.M. Friday February 25, 2022, at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 11:30 A.M. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.
