Norman Richard Spear, 92, of Hoopeston

Norman Richard Spear, 92, was called away from our presence and into the arms of the Lord on Wednesday March 30, 2022, at his Hoopeston home with his family by his side. Norm was born July 31, 1929, in Willow Springs, Illinois to Merville & Helen (Kenitz) Spear. 

Norm was a graduate of Argo High School. He served in the Korean war, in the United States Army. He managed Gill’s Drive-in in Mattoon, IL for over 20 years. This is where he met his wife, Margie. Norm worked for CIPS starting as a commercial food sales specialist, promoted to District Superintendent in Hoopeston, then Charleston. He retired in Charleston, IL after a total of 28 years of service. 

Norm married Marjorie “Margie” Faye Miller on December 16, 1950. They had four children, 3 sons, and 1 daughter. 

Norm enjoyed spending time with family, doing word searches, and sharing his incredible gardening skills for all to enjoy. 

He and Margie spent winters in Arizona watching the Cubs play in Spring Training and on Sanibel Island with friends and family. He was very active in his church and community organizations. 

Norm is survived by his daughter, Terri (Melvin Hambleton) of Hoopeston, son, Tom (Donna) of Hoopeston, and his son Greg (Michele) of Tempe, Arizona. He was blessed with 7 grandchildren, Isaac (Heather), Huck (Michelle), Alexis (Rick), Zach, Spencer (Shelley), Lance (Christine), Travis (Allie) and 8 great-grandchildren: Owen, Mirin, Zaida, Sami, Niko, Stratton, Sytha, and Jack. Norm was preceded in death by his wife Margie of 68 years, mother, father and her oldest son, Keith (Karen Hart). 

It was at his request that he be cremated and that donations be made to the Youth Children Ministries at Central Christian Church, 915 W. Lincoln Ave. Charleston, IL. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
