Richard Allen "Rich" Thompson, 81, of Hoopeston

Richard Allen “Rich” Thompson, 81, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 9:42 A.M. Friday October 28, 2022, at his home. He was born August 28, 1941, the son of Marvin Thompson and Audrey Mae (Mushrush) Carter. He married Linda K. Mason on December 4, 1971, at the Hoopeston United Methodist Church. She survives in Hoopeston. 

He is also survived by two sons, Richard W. (Glenda) Thompson of Wellington, IL and Michael A. (Robbin) Thompson of Metropolis, IL; one brother-in-law, Bruce (Cheryl) Mason of New Braden, MN; six grandchildren, Trenton, Rylee, Drake, Reese, Rome, and Miles Rue Thompson; and three nieces and nephews, Jeff Thompson, Angie Weaver, and Mike Jackson. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jerry L. Thompson and James E. Thompson. 

Rich worked at the Danville Correction Center. He later worked at the Hoopeston Post Office, did maintenance work at the Hoopeston Community Bank, and owned and operated Rich’s Lawn Care for over forty years. He loved being busy and was always working. Rich was a member of the Hoopeston United Methodist Church and was also a member of the Hoopeston Lions Club and the Olive Branch Lodge #38 in Danville.  

A visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. Wednesday November 2, 2022, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. Masonic rites will be held at 11:00 A.M. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Kathy Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.  

Memorials in Rich’s honor may be made to the East Central Illinois Children’s Dyslexia Center, 109 W. North St. Danville, IL 61832.
