Evelyn L. Voyles Thompson, 95, of Hoopeston

Evelyn L. Voyles Thompson, 95, of Hoopeston, IL passed away at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Carle Regional Health Center in Hoopeston, IL.  She was born October 6, 1927, in rural Fowler, IN., the daughter of George and Elsa (Dieterlen) Krebs.  She married Ray Voyles on July 21, 1946 in Wellington, IL.  He preceded her in death on July 7, 1988.  She then married Art Thompson on February 18, 1995 in Wellington, IL.  He preceded her in death on September 25, 2004. 

She is survived by two daughters, Jeanne (Bill) Leemon of Hoopeston, IL and Jennifer (Mike) Wallace of Monticello, IL; three sons, Steve (Christy) Voyles of Hoopeston, IL, Ron (Jill) Voyles of Beverly Hills, FL, and Dean (Sandy) Thompson of Stafford, VA.; three brothers, Cecil (Anna Mary) Krebs, Clarence Krebs, and Bernard Krebs; fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, one great- great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. 

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Edna (Dale) Nern; two brothers, Orvel (Ruth) Krebs and Russell Krebs; two sisters – in -law, Carolyn Krebs and Mickey Krebs; and one grandson, Matt Leemon. 

Evelyn graduated in 1945 from Ambia High School and then attended Ball State for one year.  She worked for Alcon Aluminum, the First Merchants National Bank in Lafayette and then Parkway Cleaners in Hoopeston.   She then worked at the Wellington State Bank and the Community Bank for forty-six years, having many titles.   She was a member of the Wellington United Methodist Church.  She was also a member of the Hoopeston Historical Society, Women Making a Difference, the Hoopeston Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Ambia Alumni Association.  She was a past president of Business and Professional Women’s Club.  Evelyn enjoyed making crafts, quilting, going to Bible study groups, and most of all her spending time with her friends, family, and step family. 

A visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL.  The funeral service will follow the visitation and begin at 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Kathy Murphy officiating.  Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.
