Ralph Myron Samet, 83, of rural East Lynn

Ralph Myron Samet, 83, of rural East Lynn, IL, passed away at 3:06 P.M. Saturday April 22, 2023, at Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center. He was born June 15, 1939, at the family home in the country outside of East Lynn, IL, the son of Alvin and Katherine Marie (Oberlander) Samet. He married Sandra Jo Long on September 30, 1962, in Cheneyville, IL. She survives in rural East Lynn.

He is also survived by three sons, Greg (Tina) Samet of rural Hoopeston, IL, Kenny (Betty) Samet of Hoopeston, IL, and Dan (Dawn) Samet of rural East Lynn, IL; two sisters, Karen (John) Laubscher of Cissna Park, IL and Peggy Busey of Paxton, IL; one brother, Richard (Sue) Samet of Hoopeston, IL; one brother-in-law, Jim Arnholt of Mattoon, IL; six grandchildren, Jacy (Trevor) Rush, Erika (Jeremy) Weber, William (Michelle) Samet, Andrew Samet (Allison Voyles), Theresa (Lane) Huls, and Elizabeth Samet (Luis Lugo); four great-grandchildren, Oliver and Emerson Huls, Murphy Rush, and Charlie Weber; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Racheline Arnholt, and one great-grandson, Theodore Huls.

Ralph was a life-long farmer and owned Samet’s Hy-hoe Service for over forty years. He served in the United States Marine Corps. where he was stationed at Paris Island. He previously attended the Cheneyville Christian Church. He was also a member of the Cissna Park American Legion Post #527 and served as a Butler Township Trustee. Ralph loved to stay busy and was always tinkering around the farm. He was very involved in his children’s activities and could always be seen attending his sons’ truck pulling events or motocross races. Later in his life, his passion for family evolved to his grandchildren, supporting them in all their activities.   

A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Thursday April 27, 2023, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday April 28, 2023, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in East Lynn Cemetery.
