Kenneth Greenberg, 85, of rural Ambia, IN

Kenneth Wayne Greenberg of rural Ambia, IN, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at Franciscan Health Hospital in Lafayette, IN.  He was born June 1, 1938, in Lafayette IN, the son of Kenneth and Pauline (Sturgeon) Greenberg. He married Margaret (Matthews) Greenberg on August 10, 1958, at the Christian Church in Ambia, IN, and they were married for almost 61 years at the time of Margaret’s death.

Kenneth is survived by four daughters (who he and his wife proudly introduced as Daughter #1, #2, #3 or #4), Becky Greenberg-Li of Avon, IN, Debra Greenberg-Hendren of Hoopeston, IL, Karen (Bryan) Greenberg-Umbanhowar of Rankin, IL, and Krista (Ben) Greenberg-Swisher of Indianapolis, IN. Survivors also include his brother, George (Linda) Greenberg, of Ambia, IN; two grandsons, Andrew Hendren and Kyle Morgan; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Greenberg, and his parents, Kenneth and Pauline Greenberg.

Kenneth was a life-long farmer with his brother, George Greenberg, and a pillar of the community. He was a member of the Ambia United Methodist Church where he served as a Trustee and the Treasurer for more than 50 years.  He also served on the Wellington, IL school board.

Kenneth and Margaret’s daughters were active in sports.  This led to his passion for volunteering.  He was an advocate, volunteer and HUGE fan of Benton Central’s High School sports programs but was especially dedicated to the high school girls’ basketball team.  He served as a volunteer for nearly 40 years and attended multiple games and practices every week.

Kenneth loved waffles with just the right amount of syrup, soft dinner rolls, corner pieces of cake (more icing), hearing his wife sing, Fords, and International Harvesters.  He loved sweater vests, sour apples from the apple tree on his farm, waterfalls and mountains, and lemon in his tea.  He loved ice cream in large bowls, and turkey dinners – especially the dressing and gravy.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. (IL time) / 11:00 a.m. (IN time) Monday, June 12, 2023, at the Ambia United Methodist Church, 208 S. 3rd St. Ambia, IN. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at Noon (IL time) / 1:00 p.m. (IN time) at the church, with Pastor C. Anne Kumeh officiating and Pastor Noel Whiteman assisting. Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, IL.

Memorials may be made in Kenneth's honor to the Benton Central Girls’ Basketball Program or to the Pine Creek Church Camp with checks payable to INUMC with “Pine Creek” in the Memo.
