Betty Carolyn Carter, 86, of Hoopeston

Betty Carolyn Carter, 86, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 10:02 P.M. Thursday July 20, 2023, at her home. She was born December 12, 1936, in Vermilion County, IL, the daughter of Floyd and Florence (Malady) Lane. She married Norman Lee Carter on September 23, 1956. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by one daughter, Sharie (Greg Bane) Carter-Bane of Hoopeston, IL; two sons-in-law, Doug Gummere of Zionsville, IN and Larry “Doc” Wallace of Hoopeston, IL; one special “son-in-law”, Steve Hanson of Hoopeston, IL; one sister, Marilyn Kay Tourangeau of Hoopeston, IL; one sister-in-law, Diana Lane of Ogden, IL; 10 grandchildren, Rachael (Rusty) Milner, Shawna (Ryan) Claypool, Robert Wallace, Jessie Wallace, Christie (Jim) Pancake, Robert (Kim) Gummere, David (Ani) Gummere, Robert (Bev) Dalton, Angel Bane and Adrienne Smith; 33 great-grandchildren, Cherity and Chase Milner, Lowla, Marley, and Bradie Claypool, Bianca, Payton, Jaxxlynn, and Ryder Wallace, Dylan and Damon Glenn, Michael Gummere, Mathew, Bobby, Anne Marie, Catherine, Luke, Dominic, and Veronica Gummere, Emma and Sophia Gummere, Keagan Dalton, Sam (Connor) Cline, Anna Dalton, Damian Bane, Lori, Christian, and Malea “Ryan” Chandler, and Austin, Faithian, Jessie, Aiden, and Nathaniel Smith; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Oliver Bieber and Jensen Lange; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a special friend, Kim Haas and was Grandma Carter to four generations of Hoopeston residents.

In addition to her husband, Norman Lee Carter, she was preceded in death by her parents; three daughters, Vickie Lee Gummere, Jackie Sue Wallace, and Kathie Anne Dalton; one son-in-law, Robert “Dinky” Dalton; one sister, Mary Francis Quinn; two brothers, Robert Lee (Barbara) Lane and Donald Allen Lane; five sisters-in-law, Hellen (Frank) Jackson, Ozella (Charles) Stuck, Mary (Raliegh) Furrow, Beverly (Moose) Bunch, and Lenora (Chuck) Stuck; five brothers-in-law, Stanley Edward Tourangeau, Harold (Ozella) Carter, Albert Leon (Kathy) Carter, Chauncey (Patricia) Carter, and Wilbur (June) Carter;; one granddaughter, Cynthia Lee Gummere; one grandson, Thomas Lee Dalton; and one niece, Diane Lane.

Betty was a homemaker, caring for her family. She enjoyed playing cards, doing puzzles, fishing, attending antique auto shows, and visiting with family and friends. Most of all, she loved her family especially her grandchildren.

A visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Wednesday July 26, 2023, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.
