Elizabeth Ann (Chew) Walker, 98, Richmond, VA,

Elizabeth Ann (Chew) Walker, 98, quietly passed away in Richmond, VA, on August 13, 2023.  She was the daughter of Harriett Belle Kremer and James Watson Chew, born July 17, 1925, in Danville, IL.  Four years into the Great Depression, in 1933, the family moved from city life to a farm in Butler Township, outside of Rossville, IL.  Growing up, she had an ear for music and learned to play the accordion, the piano, and the organ, and loved to sing.  She met and married Alvin D Walker, Sr, in Peoria, IL in 1945 and had 3 children.  All 3 boys served in the US Armed Forces.  Alvin and Elizabeth lived in 5 states before returning to Hoopeston, where they retired.  They were both active in the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star.  She and her twin enjoyed bowling and were very competitive.  She enjoyed being confused for her twin sister when out and about in town.  She always had a pleasant smile and a warm greeting, was a great cook, enjoyed the company of others, loved cats, enjoyed puzzles, scrabble, crocheting and writing poems, and had written hundreds.

She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Mary Kathryn, who was the younger of the two, as well as 4 other older siblings, Margaret, James Jr., William, who died at age 3 ½, and Harriett Louise, who was 100 years old and died one week before her, her parents and her husband.

She is survived by her 3 married children, Douglas E and Dena Walker, Alvin D Jr and Susan Walker and James R and Cindy Walker, as well as 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 2 great- great- grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, September 22, 2023, at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, IL, where she will be buried next to her husband.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elizabeth’s name to the Hoopeston Animal Rescue Team (H.A.R.T.), due to her love for cats.
