Alice Louise “Sug” Wagoner, 87, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 2:45 A.M. Wednesday July 3, 2024, at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Living in Hoopeston. She was born December 3, 1936, in Ross Township, IL, the daughter of Lawrence and Dorothy (Creamer) Matthews. She married William Oscar “Bill” Wagoner on April 2, 1955, in Hoopeston. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by one son, Doug (Sue) Wagoner of Hoopeston, IL; two sisters, Rose Watson of Alvin, IL and Judy Johnson of Danville, IL; two granddaughters, Susan (Doug) Goble and Jessica (Nathan) Alliss; three great-grandchildren, Shania Goble, Kayla (Trenton) Woodby, and Seth Goble; and two great-great-grandchildren, Harmonee and Shailee Warren.
In addition to her husband, Sug was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Loretta Gail; four sisters, Geraldine Anderson, Betty Buhrmester, Irma “Punk” Norris, and Barb Hiser; and three brothers, Henry, Charles “Bud”, and Harry Matthews.
Throughout her life, Sug worked several jobs including Carps Department Store, A & P Grocery, and IGA. For the past several years, she enjoyed cooking at her son’s restaurant, The Pit Stop, in Hoopeston. Her hobbies included crocheting, fishing, going to rummage sales, and playing euchre and slot machines. Sug especially loved her family and enjoyed cooking for family get-togethers.
A visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Monday July 8, 2024, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home with Shawon Wise officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.
