Fred Edward Obenland, Jr., 86, of rural Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 10:07 P.M. Wednesday September 11, 2024, at his home. He was born April 29, 1938, in Rankin, IL, the son of Fred E. and Laura (Philps) Obenland. He married Suzan Crose on July 1, 1961. She survives in rural Hoopeston.
He is also survived by one daughter, Ginger Bertram; one son, Rob (Tanya) Obenland; four grandchildren, Zane (Gabby) Obenland, Marissa Obenland, Laura Obenland, and Megan Bertram; two great-grandchildren, Eleanor Reeves and Maci King; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and eleven brothers and sisters.
Fred was a farmer for twenty years, farming from 1965-1985. He was also the Prairie Green Township Road Commissioner for twenty-six years. He served in the United States Army from 1961-1963 and was a member of the Wellington Lions Club. Fred collected antique Farmall tractors and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Cremation rites will be accorded and the family will hold a Celebration of Life from 1:00 -3:00 P.M. Saturday, September 28, 2024, at The Barn, 203 E. Main St., Hoopeston, IL.
Memorial donations may be made in memory of Fred to the Wellington Greer Fire Department, Milford Ambulance & Fire Department, or H.A.R.T. (Hoopeston Animal Rescue Team).
