Joyce Jean Cottingham, 77, of Danville, IL, formerly of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 3:01 P.M. Sunday, September 22, 2024 at her daughter’s home. She was born February 8, 1947, the daughter of Addison and Nora Nell (Beckner) Cropper. She married John Cottingham on September 2, 1967, at the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Hoopeston. He preceded her in death.
Joyce is survived by one daughter, Ginger (Eric) Westfall of Danville, IL; one son, Tim (Heather) Cottingham of Oakwood, IL; one brother, Donald (Marsha Sue) Cropper of Armstrong, IL; one sister-in-law, Scarlet Cropper of Attica, IN; one brother-in-law, Steve (Nancy) Cottingham of Noblesville, IN; one granddaughter, Cierra (Matt) Herron of Rossville, IL; one grandson, Cameron (Jacklyn) Cottingham of Bismarck, IL; five great grandchildren, Eli, Gray, and Knox Herron, and Beckett and Briar Cottingham, and a baby boy Cottingham on the way; one niece, Melissa Edmondson; one nephew, Scott Cropper; and three great nieces and nephews, Molly Smalley, Katie Cropper, and Heather Lee Cottingham.
Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Vickie; and one brother, Bobby.
Joyce worked as a hairdresser at Carolyn’s Beauty Shop in Hoopeston for over twenty years until her retirement. She later worked as an elementary school paraprofessional. She was a member of the Rossville Church of Christ, where she loved going to her weekly Bible study and volunteering in any way that she could. Joyce looked forward to Thursdays when she got to play cards with her friends, which most of them were from high school. Joyce was a very giving person and would be the first to help someone out.
Per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A visitation will be held 2:00 – 4:00 P.M., Sunday, September 29, 2024, at the Rossville Church of Christ, 514 E. Attica St., Rossville, IL. The memorial service will follow and will begin at 4:00 P.M. with Pastor Kevin Purdy officiating.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Marj, a Carle Hospice nurse, for her wonderful care over the last two years.
