Richard Arnold

Richard Arnold “Ric” Layden, 81, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 3:45 P.M. Saturday October 5, 2024, at his home. He was born January 5, 1943, in Danville, IL, the son of Robert Maxwell and Elizabeth June (Schuff) Layden. He married Marjorie Ann Bone on July 14, 1963, at the Hoopeston United Methodist Church. She survives in Hoopeston.

He is also survived by two daughters, Reneé (Richard) Putnam of Fountain Hills, AZ and Tamara Hambleton (Todd Davis) of Hoopeston, IL; one son, Jonathan Richard (Tracey) Layden of Hoopeston, IL; six grandchildren, Rylan (Courtney) Hambleton, Link (Stephanie) Hambleton, Brooke (Seann) Cremonesi, Courtney (Matthew) Hamer, Mason (Devin) Layden, and Trey Layden (Maya Weber); eleven great-grandchildren, Briggs and Banks Hambleton, Koulter Hambleton, Huntley, Haizley, and Halston Cremonesi, Luke and Hunter Layden, Madelyn Hamer, Arianna Edwards, and Kavin VanEtta, plus one more on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; sister, Janet Payne; brother, Robert Layden, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Glenda Layden and Janice Burk; brothers-in-law, Bill, Gary, and Mike Bone; and niece, Robin Payne Hickman.

Ric was a life-long farmer and also drove a school bus for Hoopeston/Wellington schools for 33 years. He was a member of the Hoopeston United Methodist Church. Ric was very active in the community, serving as a former board member of Wellington High School and Prairie Green Church of Christ. He also served as a past-member of the Wellington Lions Club and the Hoopeston Jaycees and was instrumental in starting Hoopeston T-Ball and the Hoopeston National Sweetcorn Festival Truck and Tractor Pull.

A visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Kathy Murphy and Mike Robling officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

Memorial donations may be made in memory of Ric to the Hoopeston United Methodist Church, 403 E. Main St., Hoopeston, IL or Iroquois Memorial Hospice, 200 Laird Lane, Watseka, IL 60970.
