Connie Sue Alkire, 73, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 6:15 A.M. Tuesday October 15, 2024, at her home. She was born September 23, 1951, in Danville, IL, the daughter of Robert “Bus” and Bertie (Defevers) Mortensen. She married Jeff Alkire on June 28, 1985, in Danville, IL. He survives in Hoopeston.
She is also survived by one daughter, Angie (Tim) Totheroh of Wellington, IL; one son, Tim (Jessica) Summers of Urbana, IL; one sister, Mary Longfellow of Cissna Park, IL; four grandchildren, Haleigh Summers, Mitchell Grove (Sabrina Mosconi), Aaron (Brandi) Totheroh, and Jessica (Anthony) Maro; four great-grandchildren, Brady Linares, Wyatt Totheroh, and Ava and Ruby Maro; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Ruby Hanna, Jean Carl, and Clara Yarbrough; and one brother, Larry Scott.
Connie worked at Gulbransen for 17 years and later as a hairdresser for the past 40 years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and watching Illini basketball. Most of all, Connie loved her family and enjoyed traveling with them, especially to the beach.
A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 18, 2024, at the funeral home with Pastor Micah Mobley officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.
