Howard Louis Brazel, 97, of Rossville, IL, passed away at 12:50 P.M. Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Living in Hoopeston. He was born March 30, 1927, in Cromwell, IN, the son of Carl W. and Amelia (Graening) Brazel. He married Ruth Strawser on December 11, 1949, in Rossville, IL. She preceded him in death on April 13, 2024.
He is survived by one daughter, Barbara (Kenneth) McVicker of Hoopeston, IL; one son, Steve (Cindy) Brazel of Hoopeston, IL; one sister, Ruby Williams Brown of Utah; five grandchildren, Amy (Orlando) Martinez, Kim (Mike) Clagg, Jami (Brian) Weidenburner, Josh (Melissa) Brazel, and Chris (Jennifer) Brazel; sixteen great-grandchildren, Acacia (Tyler) Britt, Ashante (AJ) Uppinghouse, Amillya and Aryanna Martinez, Wyatt, Taylor, Dylan, and Benny Stephenson, Ryan, Emma, Parker, Ethan, Maddie, and Payton Brazel; and Dalton and Drew Weidenburner; eight great-great-grandchildren, Malakai, Christopher, Arrow, and Manolo Uppinghouse, Luther and Ezra Britt, Cooper Stephenson-Vice, and Asher Weidenburner; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Ruth, Howard was preceded in death by his parents and eleven brothers and sisters.
Howard worked at TeePak in Danville until his retirement. He served in the United States Army from January 21, 1946 – April 16, 1947. He was a member of the Rossville Church of Christ. Howard enjoyed gardening, ice fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family.
A visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Tuesday October 22, 2024, at the Rossville Church of Christ, 514 E. Attica St., Rossville, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at the church with Pastor Kevin Purdy officiating. Burial will follow in the Rossville Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384.
