Earl Dixon, 77, of Wellington, IL, passed away at 12:21 A.M. Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Living in Hoopeston. He was born January 2, 1947, in Danville, IL, the son of Lloyd and Esther (Schwartz) Dixon. He married Cecelia Sollars on July 1, 1967. She survives.
He is also survived by three sons, Bryan (Laura) of Westfield, IN, John (Tammy) of Hoopeston, IL, and Philip (Halie) of Johnsonville, IN; one brother, Harold (Mary Jane) of rural Wellington, IL; eight grandchildren, Erika Dixon, Ethan Dixon, Haley Dixon, Claire Dixon, Danielle Dixon, Sarah (Cody) Burton, Adam Dixon, and Avery Dixon; four great-grandchildren, Beau Burton, Adley Burton, Tessa Ramos, and Stella Ramos; and many nieces and nephews.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert “Bob”.
Earl attended Wellington schools and was proud to have earned Varsity letters all four years at Wellington High School in all three sports Wellington offered: baseball, basketball, and track. He was always an athlete, whether actively playing or armchair watching, and enjoyed the Bears, Cubs, Fighting Illini, and grandchildren competing for the Hoopeston Area Cornjerkers and Westfield Shamrocks.
He served in the National Guard and was a member of the Hoopeston United Methodist Church and the Wellington Lions Club.
Earl grew up in a farming family and worked in the fertilizer business for several years before he began farming with his father, Lloyd, and brothers, Harold and Bob. Earl was always a John Deere man and enjoyed collecting the green and yellow memorabilia. He retired from farming in 2012. He was also a crop adjuster which he continued doing after retirement from farming.
A visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. Thursday October 24, 2024, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL, followed by a graveside service at 12:30 P.M. at Floral Hill Cemetery. Pastor Kathy Murphy will officiate.
