Virginia Agnes Absher, 85, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 8:01 A.M. Sunday, December 29, 2024, at her home. She was born August 13, 1939, in Albany, KY, the daughter of Homer and Sallie (Boils) Madison. She married Haskel Lee Absher on June 16, 1961, in Covington, IN. He preceded her in death on February 17, 2015.
She is survived by one daughter, Julie Michele (Al) Carl of Hoopeston, IL; one sister, Shirley Brown; two grandchildren, Kayla (Mike) Bodensteiner and Kasey Carl (Liz Coon); four great-grandchildren, Carson Garrison, Carlee Garrison, Reeve Pilotte, and Keene Carl; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; step-son, Norman Absher; four sisters, Reba “Peggy” McNeil, Ruby Daniel, Clara Long, and Genevieve Taylor; one brother, Eugene Madison; sister-in-law, Agnes Madison; and six brothers-in-law, Vance Brown, Mac McNeil, Boots Daniel, Wayne Frederick, Elmer Long, and Eugene Absher.
Throughout her life, Virginia worked at several factories including Gulbranson, Schumacher Electric, and Dave’s Electronics until her retirement on November 2, 2001. She enjoyed doing word searches, talking on the telephone, and watching television, especially the news. Virginia loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.
A visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Friday January 3, 2025, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Adam Taubert officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.
