Myrtle Joann Russell, 94, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 1:31 A.M. Wednesday February 26, 2025, at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Living in Hoopeston. She was born September 14, 1930, in Hoopeston, IL, the daughter of Marion C. and Marion Lucille (Peile) Williams. She married Omer James Russell in September 1956, in Hoopeston. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by two grandsons, Callahan (Jamie) Russell of Hoopeston, IL and Jonathan Russell of Hoopeston, IL; one great-grandson, Asher Russell; and seven nieces and nephews, Judi Sutton, Jeanne Sutton, Sandy Lewis, Cathy Powell, Carolyn Edwards, Mike Bloyd, and Joe Tunget.
In addition to her husband, Joann was preceded in death by one son, James Lloyd Russell and two sisters, Margaret Bloyd and Pat Tunget.
Joann worked at Weber's Drug Store for several years before working at the scale house at Stokley's. She later worked with her husband, helping him on the family farm. She enjoyed collecting glassware and antiques, playing bingo, and working crossword puzzles and word searches. Most of all, Joann loved her family.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 3, 2025, at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston with Pastor John Morris officiating.
Memorial donations may be made in memory of Joann to the American Heart Assocation or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
