John Michael Stephens, 72, of Ambia, IN passed away on March 16, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. Born October 16, 1952, John was the son of Raymond and Lula (Phillips) Stephens. He married Rebecca Puetz on September 7, 1974 in Fowler, IN. She survives along with their daughter, Rachel Overbaugh of Decatur, GA; two sons, Curtis (Destiney) Stephens of Otterbein, IN, and Jason (Janessa) Stephens, of Ambia, IN; ten grandchildren, Jayda, Haili, Laiden, Carlee, Fairyn, Preslie, Xaivier, Piper, Ethan, and Phoebe, and many nieces and nephews.
His parents and siblings, Charles Stephens, Linda Carlson and Marcia Quinn preceded him in death.
John, a ‘71 Benton Central HS graduate, attended Nashville Auto Diesel College before returning home to open a mechanic shop and share his skills and knowledge with many local businesses, paving the path to membership of the Boswell Rotary International. All the while he and his father operated the generational family farm. He expanded the farm operation to become the owner/operator, and the present working partnership with his son.
John’s passions, family and farm were followed by: boating, tinkering on engines, riding his Harley, attending tractor pulls and NASCAR races. He enjoyed his kids’ & grandkids’ sporting events, and followed their interests.
John traveled with his wife far and near. He searched for the perfect Bloody Mary with many dining experiences accompanied by friends. He treated visitors to his best grilled steaks, featured with his farm grown sweet corn.

Visitation will be at Ambia United Methodist Church 108 S. 3rd St. Ambia, IN 47917 on Friday, March 28, 2025 12 – 2:00 P.M. EST. Services will follow immediately at 2 P.M. EST.
