Steve Sheppard, 78, of Hoopeston

Steve Sheppard, 78, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 2:59 P.M. Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at his home. He was born September 9, 1947, in Lafayette, IN, the son of Eugene and Marcella P. “Sally” (Jennett) Sheppard. He married Virginia Ann Stipp on September 7, 1968, at St Anthony Catholic Church in Hoopeston. She preceded him in death.

He is survived by three sons, Alan Sheppard of Hoopeston, IL, Mark Sheppard of Danville, IL, and Brad (Dawn) Sheppard of Lakewood, OH; three sisters, Gayle (Pete) Davitto of Clarksville, GA, Joellyn (Mark) Hamm of Tilton, IL, and Jeannine (Don) Arvick of Colfax, IL; two brothers, Neil Sheppard of Princeton, IN and Duane (Linda) Sheppard of Hoopeston, IL; sister-in-law, Karen Sheppard of Chatsworth, IL; brother-in-law, Gordon (Renee) Stipp of Hoopeston, IL; five grandchildren, Lauren Ray Sheppard, Ryan James Sheppard, Jalyn Michelle Marcott, Taylor Christine Reed, and Kelan Ray Sheppard; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Judy (Steve) Becker; one brother, Ronald Sheppard; and his in-laws, Ray and Jennie Stipp.

Steve worked for 42 years as a lineman for CIPS which later became Ameren. He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. He enjoyed gardening, watching football, and attending and watching NASCAR races. He also enjoyed attending the Rossville truck and tractor pull and camping with his family at the Danner property. Steve especially loved his family and his dogs.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. Saturday September 27, 2025, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston, IL. The memorial service will follow the visitation and will begin at 12:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home with Father Ted Pracz officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.
