Russell Eugene Hughes, 79, of Rossville, IL, passed away at 9:11 P.M. Tuesday, February 24, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born May 21, 1946, in Rossville, IL, the son of Richmond Willard and Ruby Lavena (Holstine) Hughes. They preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Zemke and two brothers, Robert Hughes and William “Bill” Hughes.
He is survived by his daughter, Alison (Greg) Pridgen of Taft, TN; his son, Christopher (Elaine) Hughes of Hoopeston, IL; two sisters, Jeane Johnson of Peachtree City, GA and Susan Queen of Charlotte, NC; two brothers, Joe Hughes of Watseka, IL and David Hughes of Hoopeston, IL; brother-in-law, Fred Zemke; sister-in-law, Barb Hughes; six grandchildren, Evan Miller, Tyler Hughes, Lauren Denman, Colton Hughes, Cameron Drew, and Casey Hughes; seven great-grandchildren, Addyson, Kaydence, Paisley, Raelynn, Elizabeth, Kylo, and Brecken; and many nieces and nephews.
Russ worked as a postal clerk in Danville until his retirement. He served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He enjoyed golfing with his many friends; and he especially loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. Russ will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. Friday March 6, 2026, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home, with Joe Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in Rossville Cemetery in Rossville, IL.
Memorial donations may be made in memory of Russ to the Wounded Warrior Project or Autumn Fields Assisted Living of Hoopeston.
