Robert G. “Bob” Hinkle, 96, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 5:51 A.M. Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Living in Hoopeston. He was born on June 15, 1930, at his farm home in Benton County, Indiana, the son of Loren and Cora (Larkin) Hinkle. He attended and graduated from Freeland Park, Indiana school. He then served in the Korean War from 1951-1953. After his military service, Bob married Sherrill J. Gudgel on October 1, 1955, in Hoopeston. She survives in Hoopeston.
He is also survived by three sons, Mark (Sue Ellen) Hinkle, Todd (Christine) Hinkle, and Clayton (Regina) Hinkle; two sisters, Marjorie Ottinger of AZ and Linda Simmons of TX; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Wanda Tinkler and Catherine Barth; and one brother, Melvin Hinkle.
Bob owned and operated Bob’s Barber Shop for 50 years and also worked on televisions. He was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Hoopeston. He enjoyed playing golf at Hubbard Trail Country Club until he was 89 years old. Bob especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. Friday, July 31, 2026, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 12:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home with Shawon Wise officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.
