Richard Lee “Slick” Smith, 57, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 10:47 P.M. on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL. He was born on October 2, 1968, in Danville, IL, the son of Richard Warren and Linda Sue (Wallace) Smith. His mother survives in Hoopeston.
He is also survived by three daughters, Sierra Smith of Hoopeston, IL, Samantha Smith of Hoopeston, IL, and Jaymee Smith of Champaign, IL; two sons, Landyn Smith of Hoopeston, IL and Stryker Smith of Hoopeston, IL; two sisters, Patricia Benison of Hoopeston, IL and Cathy Smith of Hoopeston, IL; seven grandchildren, Shelby, Lincoln, and Louis Howe, Bentley Odom, Micheal Smith, Harper Hills, and Willow Adams; and five nieces and nephews, Josh Weber, Gage Clayburn, Lyndie Benison, Nick Cardenas, and Anthony Smith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Warren Smith; his sister, Alice Sharp; and brother, Robert Wallace.
Richard enjoyed tinkering around and collecting various items.
Visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 12:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mann’s Chapel Cemetery in rural Rossville, IL.
