Margaret Ellen Steffey, 88, of Ogden, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Country Health in Gifford.
She was born April 7, 1938, in Vermilion County, Illinois, to Kleemon and Nancy Elizabeth (Swank) Holycross. She graduated from Oakwood High School in 1956. On October 27, 1957, she married Charles R. Steffey in Danville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on March 20, 2013.
She is survived by her daughters, Salena (Ron) Peters of St. Joseph, Illinois, and Sharon (Jim) Ingrum of Ogden, Illinois; five grandchildren, Lindsey Peters, Nicole (Ian) Stanberry, Dana (Dan) Arney, Hannah (Ross) Johnson, and Layne (Kate) Ingrum; eleven great-grandchildren, Scarlet, Sydney, and Savannah Purcell, Irelyn, Jocelyn, and Milyn Stanberry, Connor and Maggie Arney, Isla and Ada Johnson, and Blair Ingrum; two brothers, Dean (Kathy) Holycross and Don (Diane) Holycross, both of Danville, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Rickie Steffey; three brothers, Gene, Jerry, and Jack Holycross; and two sisters, Mary Lou Allen and Dorothy Carithers.
Margaret spent most of her life as a farmwife, caring for her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the #10 Church of Christ. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, and baking, especially her yeast dinner rolls. She loved hosting family gatherings and picnics, and she also enjoyed going to the lake and waterskiing.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the #10 Church of Christ in Potomac, with funeral services immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Homer GAR Cemetery.
