Karin Su Takala, 72, passed away unexpectedly on August 9, 2026, at Carle Foundation Hospital following a brief illness.
Su was born on March 9, 1954, in Danville, Illinois, to Dale and Marilyn (Schmink) Hoshauer, who preceded her in death.
Family was an important part of Su’s life. She is survived by her siblings, Bill (Renee) Hoshauer of Pikeville, Tennessee; Kathy (Jeff) Weber of East Peoria, Illinois; and Kristi (Garry) Hawker of Potomac, Illinois. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Garrett (Tina) Hoshauer, Trent (Ross Hilleary) Hawker, Shannon (Chris Goeckner) Hoshauer, Lauren Hawker, and Hannah (Meghan) Weber, whom she loved very much and who held a special place in her heart. She also had the distinction of being a great aunt to Addison and Carter.
Su dedicated 30 years of her life to civil service, working at Chanute Air Force Base, Grissom Air Force Base, Scott Air Force Base, and the United States Department of Agriculture before her retirement. Her career reflected her commitment to service and many years of dedicated work.
Outside of her career, Su enjoyed spending time with the people she loved. She enjoyed reading and binge-watching movies and series such as The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, NCIS, and Downton Abbey. She also had a particular fondness for playing video games, especially the Legend of Zelda series, a pastime that remained one of her favorite ways to relax, have fun, and enjoy her time.
Su will be remembered with love by her family and by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her and in the many relationships she treasured throughout her life.
Cremation rites will be accorded, and a graveside service, officiated by Timothy Morgan, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Potomac Cemetery in Potomac, Illinois. The family has entrusted Blurton Funeral Home in Potomac with arrangements.
