Nancy Jo "Joey" Mason, 71, of Rankin

Nancy Jo “Joey” Mason, 71, of Rankin, IL, passed away at 7:27 P.M. Monday, August 17, 2026, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. She was born on March 2, 1955, at St. James Hospital in Pontiac, IL, the daughter of Robert Eugene and Helen Lorraine (Herbert) Schieler. She married Edward Tate and they had one son. She later married Thomas Mason on September 9, 1989, and he preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Jerry Schieler; and one brother-in-law, Larry Tyler.

She is survived by her son, Kellen Robert Piffner of Seattle, WA; her sister, Marilyn Tyler of Rankin, IL; her sister-in-law, Marie Schieler of Hoopeston, IL; 6 nieces and nephews, Tricia (John) Freeland, Angie (Brian Street) Schieler, Robert (Dee) Schieler, Cindy (Garry) Brown, Connie (Greg) Davis, and Tim (Joy) Tyler; and 14 great, great-great, and great-great-great-nieces and nephews.

Nancy was a florist, owning and operating Joey’s Pocket in Brighton, IL. She was also a bookkeeper and later worked at NAPA in Paxton and Watseka. She served as a past member of the Rankin City Council and as an election judge. Nancy loved her 3 cats and enjoyed making crafts and reading.

Visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Janet Longtin officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

Memorial donations may be made in memory of Nancy to the Hoopeston Public Library, 110 N. 4th St., Hoopeston, IL 60942.
