Stephen “Orbie” Ray Vogel, 76, of Henning, died Friday, September 25, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.
Stephen was born on March 5, 1950, in Watseka, IL, to Ralph R. and Rita (Diskin) Vogel. He married Mary Kelley on May 17, 1975, in Watseka, IL, and she survives.
Survivors include his daughter, Heather (Glen Meeker) Vogel of Rantoul, IL; son, Kelley Vogel of Milford, IL; five grandchildren, Cadence Meeker, Melina Vogel, Tyson Meeker, Tristan Vogel, and Alissa Meeker; brother, Michael (Connie) Vogel of Cissna Park, IL; sister, Karen Stone of Rankin, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents preceded him in death.
Stephen graduated from Rankin High School and earned a broadcasting degree from DeVry College. He worked for Prairie Farms Dairy for 32 years before retiring. A lifetime NRA member, he enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, golfing, and playing poker with friends. Above all, he treasured time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Blurton Funeral Home in Potomac, IL. Funeral services will follow at noon, with Pastor Randy Holden officiating. Cremation rites will be arranged after the services. Memorials may be made to Potomac First Church of the Nazarene. The family has entrusted Blurton Funeral Home with honoring Stephen’s life.
