ISP TRAFFIC CRASH RELEASE
The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police
District 10
WHAT: Single Vehicle Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Traffic Crash
WHERE: Interstate 57 northbound exit ramp to U.S. 136 Rantoul, IL (milepost 250)
WHEN: July 20, 2020 at 11:51am
VEHICLES: Unit 1: 2014 Kenworth
DRIVERS: Unit 1: Ronald E. Gaffney, 58-year-old male of Fairmount, IL
PASSENGERS: None
PRELIMINARY: A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling northbound on I-57 and exited at milepost 250 to Rantoul, IL. Unit one left the roadway to the left and entered the grassy median. Unit one rolled and came to rest on its side. Unit one was pulling a tanker trailer containing anhydrous ammonia. The exit ramp will be closed for several hours in order to remove the unit 1 vehicle and trailer. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is assisting with the closure. The unit 1 driver was transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
CHARGES: The unit 1 driver was issued a citation for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
