ISP FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH ALERT

 

The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police

District 10

 

 

WHAT:                      Fatal Traffic Crash

 

WHERE:                   US 136 at 2400E (Champaign County)

 

WHEN:                      Saturday, August 15, 2020, 9:18 p.m.

 

VEHICLE:                Unit 1:  Bicycle- Maroon in color Sedona SE Giant men's bicycle (roadster or 10 speed style)

Unit 2:  Bicycle- Black in color GMC Denali 700 men's bicycle (mountain bike style)

                                    Unit 3:  2004 Chrysler Crossfire                               

                                                                       

DRIVER:                   Unit 1:  Matthew J. Correll 18-year-old male of Gifford, IL (Deceased)

Unit 2:  15-year-old male (Transported to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries)

Unit 3:  Shawn H. Allen 53-year-old male of Saint Joseph, IL

(No Injuries)

 

PRELIMINARY:      Preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred:  Unit 1 was traveling westbound in center of the westbound lane of Route 136, 1/4 mile east of Champaign County Road 2400 East. Unit 2 was traveling westbound in the westbound lane of Route 136 behind Unit 1. Unit 3 was traveling westbound on Route 136 and struck Unit 2 and Unit 1 from behind.  Unit 1 bicyclist was pronounce deceased on the scene. Unit 2 bicyclist was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The roadway was closed for approximately seven hours and reopened at approximately 3:53 a.m.

 

CHARGES:               Pending Investigation
