WHAT:                      Personal Injury Traffic Crash

 

WHERE:                   Illinois Route 1 at Main Street in Westville (Vermillion County)

 

WHEN:                      Sunday, August 30, 2020, 9:08 p.m.

 

VEHICLE:                Unit 1:  Black 2020 Kawasaki Sport Motorcycle

                                    Unit 2:  Tan 1997 Saturn SL1            

                                                                                            

DRIVER:                   Unit 1:  Shane A. Green, 29-year-old male of Georgetown, IL

(Transported via helicopter to a local area hospital with serious injuries)

Unit 2:  Jarred Nelk, 27-year-old male of Clarks Hill, IN (No injuries)

 

PASSENGER:           Unit 2:  Blase S. Sanders, 20-year-old male of Danville, IL

 

PRELIMINARY:      Preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred:  The Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Unit 1 which was traveling southbound on Illinois Route 1 (N State Street in Westville). Unit 1 did not stop and ran a stop light.   Unit 2 had been stopped at a stop light facing east on west Main Street at Illinois Route 1, when the light turned green, Unit 2 began to pull into the intersection to turn north onto Illinois Route 1 when Unit 1 disregarded the red light and struck the front end of Unit 2. 

 

CHARGES:               The driver of Unit 1 was issued a citation Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident and Disobeying a Stop Light.  The Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department has additional charges.

 

The public is reminded all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
