Vermilion County Covid 19 update 11/3/2020

General Updates

Region 6 (without UIUC tests) increased to 9.5% (ending 10/30).   Vermilion County shot back up to 10.9%.  We also continue to see higher numbers of hospitalizations and our ICU bed availability in the region is at 37%.

The graphic below looks at the entire state for hospital beds and what is open, being used by non-COVID patients, and COVID patients.  The dark blue is COVID19 patients and that line is rising again.  You can see this graphic also here:  http://www.dph.illinois.gov/covid19/hospitalization-utilization

Also, if you would like to look at the latest information on Influenza Surveillance - https://www.dph.illinois.gov/sites/default/files/CDCS%20Influenza%20Surveillance%20Reports%202020-2021%20Week%2043.pdf

IDPH also released death statistics for 2019.  There were 2,106 deaths related to flu and pneumonia.  In 2020 so far, there have been 9,810 deaths related to COVD19. If we continue pace, COVID19 could be in the top 3 for leading causes of death for 2020.  In Vermilion County, we had 15 deaths from Influenza and Pneumonia in 2019.  https://www.dph.illinois.gov/data-statistics/vital-statistics/death-statistics   Deaths that have on the death certificate that lists COVDI19 as an underlying cause of death or a significant condition contributing to death.  (this does not include someone who dies, for example, in a car wreck).

I welcome any feedback on what more we can be doing to keep our community healthy and safe.

Mitigation Measures  (This is NOT Phase 3)

TIER ONE Mitigations

IDPH released guidance on Region 6 - https://dceocovid19resources.com/assets/Restore-Illinois/COVID-19-Resurgence-Migitations.pdf

Tomorrow is Election Day:  The new guidance does not affect Polling locations.  We do ask that polling places encourage social distancing and masking.  Please remember, you CANNOT deny someone their right to vote who refuses to wear a mask.  If someone tests positive or has to quarantine, please call the County Clerk’s office on guidance on how they can still vote.

Update on Cases

Over the weekend:  25 new cases and 18 released.  Total Cases 1675 and active cases at 185.

Today’s Cases:  27 new cases and 32 were released out of isolation.   Our active cases are now at 178 with 163 isolated at home and 15 hospitalized.  We have 1 toddler, 1 grade school children, 4 teens, 2 in their 20s, 3 in their 30s, 4 in their 40s, 4 in their 50s, 4 in their 60s, 3 in their 70s, and 1 in their 80s.

CORRECTION:  We had an individual counted as one of our previous deaths due to a reporting error, so that has been removed from out death total number and our total confirmed number.  We apologize for the mistake.  Unfortunately, we are adding 2 new deaths to the count today.   2 gentlemen in their 80s who were previously hospitalized.  Our hearts go out to their friends and family.  This makes our total deaths at 14.

Outbreak Information

  • There are increased cases or outbreaks in the following areas:
    • Congregate Living Facilities – both staff and residents
    • Large and Small Gatherings - small gatherings are especially cause for concern as people usually are around close friends and family when masks and social distancing are not being done.
    • Households – once it gets into a household, it spreads very quickly if the individuals cannot social distance and mask from each other.
    • Industries
    • Workplaces
    • Schools / Daycares
