Vaccination Updates

5,447 vaccine doses have been administered to Vermilion County residents.  671 have been fully vaccinated.

Our plan is to still open up our phone lines on February 16th to begin taking more appointments.

We vaccinated over 200 yesterday and it looks to be over 200 again today and over 200 tomorrow.

We are also working with Carle and OSF as they begin to take on their patients to give vaccines.  This is information for what their options are:

  •  If you are 75 and older, and a resident of Vermilion County, you may have the opportunity to receive a vaccine through special clinics at Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center or Carle Danville on Fairchild.  Please do not call your providers office, instead call 217-902-6100 to check appointment availability.    Carle will also be moving to the Village Mall and will be ramping up their vaccine clinics (hoping to do at least 2,000 a week).
  • OSF HealthCare is offering the COVID-19 Vaccine to patients by appointment only. Patients will receive an invite for their appointment via OSF MyChart, email, or phone. OSF is currently prioritizing patients using age (greater than 65) with additional risk factors to ensure patients most at risk receive the vaccination first.

This is an amazing partnership with both our hospitals that we are forever grateful for.

Questions / Concerns

  • IDPH re-iterated again that even FULLY VACCINATED people will STILL need to quarantine if they are exposed to a positive case.  Right now, while the vaccine helps prevent severe symptoms, they are still unsure if people are still able to transmit the disease if someone who is fully vaccinated gets the virus.
  • Please remember that it takes at least 2 weeks for the vaccine to be at its most effectiveness once you receive your 2nd dose.
  • Please be mindful that with the new variant in our community and probably throughout the nation, masking, 6 feet distance, and cleaning is really important for prevention!  Please do not let your guards down!

Case updates (numbers from last night)

We are up to 7,658 cases (this is about 10% of our population) with 11 hospitalizations.  Our total number of deaths related to COVID19 are 94 as we were able to confirm 3 additional deaths yesterday.  Our current active cases are at 520.  We have had 91,473 negatives tests so far.  We will get new numbers this evening that I will report to you tomorrow.
