Vermilion County Covid 19 update 4/26/21

We are reporting 30 new cases today (two residents in their 70s, two in their 60s, five in their 50s, one in their 40s, seven in their 30s, six in their 20s, three teens, and four grade-school-aged children), and 6 released, which brings us to a total of 9,102 positive cases.

We are saddened to report another COVID-related death -- a woman in her 80s.  Our sympathies go out to her family and friends.  We have lost a total of 132 Vermilion County residents to COVID-related deaths since this pandemic began.

There are currently ten Vermilion County residents with COVID hospitalized.  There are currently 116 active COVID cases in the county.  We have received 131,888 negative test results.

The B-117 variant – a more-contagious version of COVID-19 – is moving throughout our community.

As the number of new COVID cases continues to increase, the number of COVID-related hospitalizations and the number of COVID-related deaths increase.

The increase in cases can impact the number of open hospital beds, our workplaces and our schools.

Wearing face masks and practicing social distancing can help to slow the spread of this disease.  Please continue to be vigilant.  Make smart choices.  Be safe.

We will continue to have additional vaccination resources and Illinois National Guard personnel in our county for a few more weeks.  While we and our health-care partners will continue to offer COVID vaccinations for the foreseeable future, the clinics will not be at this level of availability for long.  If you are considering getting a COVID vaccination, please do so sooner rather than later.
