WHAT:                     Two Unit Fatal Traffic Crash            

WHERE:                   Illinois Route 49 at 4000 North, Vermillion County

WHEN:                      May 3, 2021 at approximately 1:05 p.m.                              

VEHICLES:              Unit 1- 2005 Black Hyundai SUV

                                    Unit 2- 2005 Silver Chevrolet SUV

DRIVERS:                 Unit 1- Ellis Flessner-Bryant, 20-year-old male from Rankin, IL – Transported by ambulance to an area hospital with minor injuries.

 

                                    Unit 2- 59-year-old female – Deceased (Pending notification of next of kin)

 

PRELIMINARY:      Preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling south on Illinois Route 49 near 4000 north in Vermillion County. Unit 2 was traveling north at the same location. The driver of Unit 1 turned left into a private drive, in front of Unit 2. Unit 2 struck Unit 1 in the passenger side. Unit 1 came to rest in the ditch. Unit 2 rolled over, coming to rest in the roadway. The driver of Unit 1 was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with minor injuries. The driver of Unit 2 was pronounced deceased on scene by the Vermillion County Coroner. The Coroner’s office will release the name once next of kin notifications have been made. This crash is still under investigation and no further information is available at this time.

 

CHARGES:               The driver of Unit 1 was cited for Failure to Yield Right of Way - Turning Left.
