WHAT:                      One Vehicle Fatal Traffic Crash

WHERE:                   Illinois Route 115 at Ford County 1175 North

WHEN:                      June 16, 2021 at approximately 9:30 a.m.

VEHICLE:                Unit 1 – 2005 Silver Toyota                          

DRIVER:                   Unit 1 – Randy O. Lopez, 24-year-old male of Piper City, Illinois                 

PASSENGER:           Unit 1 – Gabriela K. Shurr, 20-year-old female of Piper City, Illinois

                                    Unit 1 – Anayeli I. Medina, 19-year-old female of Piper City, Illinois (Deceased) 

PRELIMINARY:     A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1 was traveling northbound on Illinois Route 115 at Ford County 1175 North Road when for unknown reasons the driver veered across the southbound lanes.  Unit 1 struck the guardrail before coming to rest in the ditch. The driver and a passenger of Unit 1 were transported to a local area hospital with injuries.  A second passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene.

                                    Illinois Route 115 at Ford County 1175 North was shut down for approximately four hours.   

CHARGES:               The driver of Unit 1 was issued citations for Driving with a Suspended Driver’s License, Failure to Wear a Seatbelt and Improper Lane Usage. The investigation is ongoing at this time. There is no further information available.
