Vermilion County Covid 19 update 7/10/21

accine Fact Information

Please feel free to share some of these sites with credible and factual information as we continue to have vaccine hesitancy and a lot of misinformation going around in the media, especially social media:

  1. The COVID19 vaccine did not rush or skip any steps during the testing and approval process:
    1. Vaccines can take a long time to be approved in normal circumstances because of limited funds and resources, limited disease to test against, etc.  With COVID19 and an ongoing pandemic, there was no limit to funding (that part is huge), multiple companies working together,  and plenty of disease for testing.  You need high infections rates to shorten the period of time to study for effectiveness and safety.
    2. While there have been some adverse reactions, those have been extremely rare.
    3. For more accurate information, please go to the CDC’s website:  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/safety/safety-of-vaccines.html
  2. mRNA Vaccines are too new and can change our DNA (MYTH)
    1. While they are new, they have been studying them and working with them for decades and no, they do not change your DNA.  See the facts here - https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/different-vaccines/mrna.html
  3. Here is a site for some of the other common myths that are going around (sorry, you are not magnetic after you had your vaccine):  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/facts.html

School Update!!!

The CDC on Friday will recommend that fully vaccinated students, teachers and other staff don’t have to wear masks in school next year. The guidance still calls for unvaccinated attendees to mask up. The CDC also sticks with recommending its 3-feet distancing rule, testing and other mitigation measures, particularly in elementary schools where the students are too young to qualify for the vaccine. Reminder that CDC isn’t a regulatory agency so nothing in these recommendations is required. But CDC guidance has been a powerful influence on the decisions of districts, parents and teachers' unions. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/schools-childcare/k-12-guidance.html?fbclid=IwAR1IHAZQfyFMcdDP6t7DxjJQ5-HI8upomkToE3TwTjNIdd4wjQCt1zEdYjY

Please keep tabs on the IDPH School Metrics and FAQs as I assume these will change in the next few weeks.  http://www.dph.illinois.gov/covid19/community-guidance/school-guidance
