Vermilion County Covid 19 update 8/27/21

Due to our HIGH transmission status, it is recommended that everyone, despite vaccination, should wear a mask when indoors.   Local transmission in Vermilion County decreased slightly to 601.92.  Please continue to encourage people to get vaccinated, wear a mask when indoors, and make good decisions.  Our actions can affect everyone in this community.

Mask and vaccine mandate information was sent earlier today.  Please see that email for specifics.

Vermilion County is averaging about 100 new vaccinations per day.

Hospital Information

One of our Region’s Hospital’s EDs were at Peak Census as of this morning.  We have about 15 ICU beds open in Region 6 which includes 15 hospitals and 1 VA  (Region 6 covers 21 counties).  Region 5 reported yesterday they have 1 ICU bed open for their entire region (and that is not even for a COVID19 ICU bed, that is total ICU beds).  Region 5 is the southern part of Illinois which has about 15 or so counties and is the least vaccinated region in the state.   Hospitals are having a hard time even transferring patients because availability is so low.

Much of the concern for our hospitals is staffing shortages and keeping them functioning.  It is critical that we do not shut down our healthcare system, I cannot stress this enough.

Vaccine Updates

Check our website for upcoming COVID19 Vaccination Clinics at the Vermilion County Health Department:  www.vchd.org

We are not currently able to do any agency onsite clinics due to limited staff availability.  If you would like to set up an on-site clinic at your location, IEMA can bring in a mobile team.  They have come to multiple agencies already here in Vermilion County.  Here is the contact information or you can fill out a Vaccine Clinic Application:  http://www.dph.illinois.gov/covid19/vaccinationclinics

  • There are also plenty of locations that are offering vaccines currently including our local hospitals (OSF, Carle, and the VA), pharmacies, Aunt Martha’s, and some private providers.  You may need to make an appointment first before going.
