Due to our HIGH transmission status, it is recommended that everyone, despite vaccination, should wear a mask when indoors. Local transmission decreased slightly to 541.20 over the 7 day period. Please continue to encourage people to get vaccinated, wear a mask when indoors, and make good decisions. Our actions can affect everyone in this community.
Regional Hospital Information
Four of our Region’s Hospital’s EDs were at Peak Census as of this morning. We have about 14 ADULT ICU beds open in Region 6 which includes 15 hospitals and 1 VA (Region 6 covers 21 counties). Status for our region as of this morning was that we have about 34 COVID patients in the ICU, 172 in non-ICU status, and 22 on ventilators. There were about 21 patients waiting in EDs for beds to be admitted. These numbers do not include the PUIs. Please remember it isn’t the number of actual beds available that is the problem, it is the number of available staff to provide care for those beds. We saw a significant increase in our non-ICU status patients and those waiting for beds in our EDs.

Testing Updates
Here is a breakdown of all the places I am aware of that does testing. While we do now have testing at the health department, we cannot accommodate everyone. If you are having to get tested weekly due to not being vaccinated, my recommendation is to get vaccinated. We are trying to get more testing options here in the county. Per the Executive Order: If you have been identified as a healthcare provider, congregate care, schools, higher education, etc., you must submit to weekly testing if you are choosing not to get vaccinated. VCHD is not currently able to do any agency onsite clinics due to limited staff availability. If you would like to set up an on-site clinic at your location, IEMA can bring in a mobile team. They have come to multiple agencies already here in Vermilion County like the one above. Cases from yesterday included: 39 new cases and 61 released. 3 of the new cases were fully vaccinated.
Cases from today include: 100 new cases and 73 released. 4 of the new cases were fully vaccinated. We now have 34 hospitalized – none of our new hospitalizations were fully vaccinated.
Ages from today’s cases were: 33 under the age of 20; 42 were between 20 and 49; 25 were over the age of 50.
